What sets the LS50 Meta apart from its predecessor is KEF’s Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), a maze-like structure mounted behind the tweeter that absorbs 99% of unwanted rearward sound energy. Build quality is excellent throughout. The cabinet feels solid and inert when rapped with a knuckle, with no hint of the resonance you might find in cheaper alternatives. The rear-firing bass port is flared at both ends to minimize chuffing at higher volumes, and the binding posts accept bare wire, spades, or banana plugs with equal ease. At 7.1kg each, they have a reassuring heft that speaks to the quality of materials inside, though they remain compact enough to fit on standard 24-inch speaker stands without overhang.

That said, budget-conscious buyers should account for the total system cost. The LS50 Meta’s 85dB sensitivity and nominal 8-ohm impedance mean they need a capable amplifier to truly sing. A mediocre receiver will leave these sounding flat and lifeless.
